Director Bio
Robin V Schwoyer
Rev. Robin V Schwoyer is the mom to an awesome 13 year old boy living with Autism. He helped her to create this nonprofit organization, HeARTs for Autism in 2005. Robin’s work with her son, using the Arts and Yoga, moved professionals and other parents to request she create something for ASD families. It was the unique and inspirational paintings her son created that funded the start up, and the devoted support of many friends and professionals who volunteered, which launched this powerful, integrated approach for the kids and families. The program grew from 19 families to over 400 families served in these 6 years. The large majority of the programming has been free to families. We have focused on group settings on a monthly basis and use various mediums of Art and Movement to work with the Spectrum children, siblings and parents. At times, we do private consults to address very specific goals for the child. We presently are looking to expand and create weekly programs using local therapists and artists to assist our Spectrum children’s growth and development. We have displayed our “Awe-tistic Art” created by our kids and families in galleries, capitol buildings, restaurants, schools, malls and other public places, to help spread awareness about the Autism Spectrum condition and to educate the public. It is also a wonderful way to celebrate the community of who we are, as we live the Spectrum life, uplifting our children, while creating hope.
Robin has a background in Business with a degree in Finance and Marketing from Drexel University. She was ordained in 1998 as an Episcopal Minister, with her ministry focus being families and children in crisis in the inner city. She used art and movement with the youth and loved how they grew from the experiences. Robin is a Holistic Wellness Practitioner as well, certified in several healing systems to help persons create more healthy and vibrant lifestyles, seeing clients in her practice, Abundant Life Mission, in Newtown, PA.
Robin’s interest and study of complimentary and alternative care approaches expanded with her desire to find holistic ways to help her son. Robin is a certified Reflexologist, Therapeutic Touch practitioner, Integrated Energy Therapy Master Instructor, Reiki Master Teacher, Advanced Theta Healing Practitioner, Ama Deus healer, American Red Cross Certified Life Guard and special needs swim instructor, certified Children’s Yoga Teacher & 200 hour Yoga Teacher. Robin has self studied and taken over 500+ hours in trainings for Autism, Occupational therapy, Speech therapy and Social Skills to expand her knowledge and skills to use with her son and in the programs. Robin is married and has 3 children. As a family they work together to help each other deal with the stresses of Autism, while enjoying the richness and uniqueness in opportunities Autism represents.
